Evergreen Ads & Realistic Shadows

WEEK OF JAN. 20-24

TASK This week I worked on new evergreen ads focusing on tables and mirrors. The task was definitely daunting at first because there was so much to do in so little time. The design direction was completely up to me, but I had to complete certain “types” of ads, like including a checklist and comparing and contrasting like the examples below.

PROCESS My personal objective during this campaign was to create realistic tables shadows, a major struggle of mine. In general, I find creating realistic shadows quite difficult at times and thought this was a good opportunity to learn something new. I researched tutorials and studied pictures on furniture websites until I felt confident to try it myself. After adding a typical drop shadow in Photoshop, I detached the layer, turned it into a smart object, and tried different options in the Blur Gallery. The reflection was the finishing touch that tied it all together.

DESIGN SPOTLIGHT

  • Photoshop’s Blur Gallery > Path Blur helped me create realistic table shadows

Finally learned how to make a realistic shadow!

I love the subtle animations here.
